Feedworks USA is proud to be the Distributor for Celtic Sea Minerals, based out of Cork, Ireland. Celtic Sea Minerals specializes in the development, manufacture and marketing of natural animal feed, hygiene and fertilizer products based on calcareous marine algae.
Celtic Sea Minerals harvests in two key locations: the original site off the south west coast of Ireland – which has been worked since 1991 – and a significant and plentiful new reserve in Arnarfjordur, a fiord in the north west of Iceland. (Have ‘button’ to allow people to see Video Iceland).
CALCAROUS MARINE ALGAE
Calcareous marine algae is the collective term for several species of calcified red seaweed. Calcareous marine algae are very slow growing and can form extensive beds in favorable conditions, typically in relatively shallow and clear, unpolluted coastal waters where there is some tidal flow.
The live plant contains a pink pigment on its surface, which traps sunlight to provide energy for its growth. In time a dead, white calcareous skeleton develops which is rich in calcium and other minerals. It is only this dead material that is harvested from the seabed primarily for its significant value as an animal feed raw material and acidic soil conditioner.

CALMIN
Pure Rumen Conditioning
Calmin conditions the rumen and allows it to work more efficiently. Calmin is manufactured from calcareous marine algae, which is harvested from clean, unpolluted waters off the coasts of Ireland and Iceland. It is a highly effective rumen buffer and pure source of bio-available minerals deposited within its structure by the sea, especially calcium and magnesium.
Thanks to its unique honeycombed physical structure and large surface area, Calmin breaks down slowly in the cow – conditioning the rumen and neutralizing significantly more acid, over a longer period, than many conventional buffers. As Calmin breaks down it releases highly bio-available calcium and magnesium to the cow.
Calmin in the lactating cow
- Better neutralization of rumen acid
- Excellent source of bio-available minerals
- Improves fiber digestion
- Boosts milk yield and quality
Calmin in the dry cow
- Allows increased concentrate feeding close to calving
- Excellent source of bio-available minerals
- Reduces the risk of metabolic disorders
- Conditions the rumen for lactation
